Get to know Jade

Jade Xu is a first-year PhD student in Communication Studies on the Media, History, and Culture Track. She holds an MA in East Asian Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and a BMS in E-Commerce from Nanjing University, China. Her current research explores the intersection of fandom, nationalism, and platformization in East Asia, with a specific focus on how Chinese youth negotiate identity on algorithmic platforms while engaging with governmentality. Before pursuing graduate studies, she spent three years working in the media industry as a Public Relations Executive and Integrated Marketing Communication Manager, experiences that provided her with valuable practical insights into her research on media and cultural production.
