Biography

Liz Pearce earned both her Master of Arts Degree and her Ph.D. from The University of Iowa and has been involved with teaching, research, and administration at the UI for over 25 years. Her administrative experience includes leading the Cross Cultural Outreach and Training Unit in International Programs, managing a CDC funded grant that conducted research at WIC clinics in all 99 of Iowa’s counties, and managing the Instructional Design and Technology Team (the team that is responsible for ICON, On-line at Iowa, clickers, ifolio and enterprise instructional technology) in ITS.

Liz has 16 years of teaching experience at The University of Iowa. Before making the Department of Communication Studies her academic home, Liz taught in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies, the Department of Rhetoric, and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Liz has taught a variety of courses in the Department of Communication Studies, including Communication in Everyday Life, Gender Roles and Communication, Intercultural Communication, Advanced Intercultural Communication, Nonverbal Communication, and the online class, “Leadership and Organizations.”

Liz has been recognized for “Excellence in Teaching” on two occasions by The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils at the University of Iowa, and was a nominee for “The Last Lecture” in 2008.

In addition to presenting numerous courses on organizational communication at the UI, Liz has planned and delivered professional development programs at Iowa Wesleyan College, Upper Iowa University, The University of Nebraska at Omaha, Kirkwood Community College, Iowa Central Community College, and a variety of local businesses including ACT, the former First National Bank, the former Iowa State Bank, McLeod USA, and the New Pioneer Co-op. She has also conducted programs for the staff of the Iowa City Public Library and the Iowa City Police Department.
